Dr. Barry Rothman, voted "Best Health Care Professional" by the residents of Alexandria, takes great pride and joy in being a physician. As a father of three girls, Dr. Rothman gives each patient the care and attention he would want and expect his family to receive. His depth of experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology is extensive, with special focus in high-risk births, infertility, and endoscopic surgery. Dr. Rothman currently is the chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Inova Alexandria Hospital. He has also been voted one of Washingtonian Magazine's "Best Physicians."

A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Dr. Rothman has provided women's healthcare in Alexandria since 1979. He completed medical school and his residency training at George Washington University, where he received special recognition as chief resident in his senior year. Dr. Rothman is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a member of many societies including the American Fertility Society, the Gynecological Laser Society, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Alice McKnight is a native Washingtonian, who joined the practice in 1990. She attended medical school at The Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed her residency training at Howard University in 1986. She practiced at The Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and at a public health facility in Alexandria, Va. prior to joining the practice, which enabled her to gain a great deal of experience in various gynecologic disease states. Her special interests lie in high-risk pregnancies, adolescent gynecology, gynecologic infectious diseases, and laparoscopic and laser procedures.

Dr. McKnight is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Fertility Society, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, the American Medical Association, and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals.

Dr. Marc Siegel joined the practice in 1995, after graduating from Georgetown University Medical School and completing his residency training at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Siegel has focused his efforts in the area of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with special interests in high-risk obstetrics, reproductive endocrinology, hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery, and urogynecology (including pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence).

A native Washingtonian, Dr. Siegel and his wife welcome the opportunity to return to their roots in the area. As a father of three young children, Dr. Siegel understands the joys as well as the challenges of raising a family under today's pressures. He is a strong advocate of preventive healthcare and patient education.

Dr. Siegel is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Sonia Salgado was born and raised on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico, and completed her specialty training at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital. We call her Dr. Salgado, but others may call her Lt. Col. Salgado, as she has served 19 years in the United States Air Force. At Andrew’s Air Force Base, she was the Chairperson of the OB/GYN Department.

Dr. Salgado joins our practice in 2007 with 17 years experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology. As a professional woman, a military officer, a wife and a mother, she has learned the importance of team work. Dr. Salgado employs the “team work” philosophy in working with her patients, and enjoys the patient who comes prepared with her questions and research.

As a Board Certified physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology, this doctor has particular interest in vulvar disorders, sexual dysfunction issues, and hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Salgado is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and currently sits on the Quality Assurance Committee at Alexandria Hospital.

Dr. Kristina Hibshman moved to the local area from Cincinnati, Ohio. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Maryland and George Washington University. Kristina joined Physicians For Women in 2007 after several years of private practice experience.

On the personal side, she is a wife and the mother of two sons and a daughter (not in that order). Dr. Hibshman is a volunteer for the Red Cross, helping out our United States Navy personnel.

Professionally, Dr. Hibshman enjoys all aspects of OB/GYN. She particularly loves working with our young patients to insure that their first GYN experience is a good one. She believes in educating her patients to set them up to make healthy life choices.

Physicians For Women is proud to offer childbirth classes to our expectant parents. Classes are taught in our office by experienced instructors one evening a week for six weeks. The series of classes is a combined presentation of several ideas and theories of childbirth as well as personal experience.

Emphasis is placed on building self-confidence for the expectant woman and encouraging her to be an active, competent, knowledgeable participant in childbirth with good coping abilities.

A partner or labor companion is strongly encouraged. This partner is the support person for the laboring woman and attends classes and the labor and delivery.
